Riding Tips for Koh Samui

Small island — but there are things that will catch you out if you don't know them.

Road Condition

The main ring road (Route 4169) is well-maintained. Interior roads near waterfalls can be steep and rough — take the PCX if you plan to go inland.

Chaweng Beach Road

The beach road in Chaweng is a traffic nightmare 6pm–midnight. Take the inner road (Soi Coliseum) parallel to the beach — 10x faster and no tuk-tuks.

Best Time to Ride

7am–10am for the ring road — before heat and tourist traffic. Ang Thong viewpoint is best at sunrise (leave at 5:30am) or 90 min before sunset.

PTT stations are in Chaweng, Lamai and Nathon. If exploring north or west, fill up before heading out — some villages only have roadside petrol bottles.
