Roads are beautiful but wet. Tyres wear fast on mountain descents. Always take the Damage Waiver — one wet corner makes it worthwhile.

For bikes above 125cc you need an International Driving Permit (motorcycle category) or a Thai motorcycle license. We check — your vendor checks — police check.

Fuel on the Loop
Fill up in Mae Chaem before the Doi Inthanon stretch. PTT and Shell are reliable — avoid unmarked roadside bottles. PCX 160 does ~50km/L.

Hospitals on Route
Chiang Mai Ram Hospital is the best English-speaking option. On the loop: Mae Hong Son Provincial Hospital is the main facility.

Temperature Drops
Doi Inthanon summit can be 8°C even in November. Pack a light jacket — it's a 30°C swing from the city. Serious cold if riding at night.

Police Checkpoints
Frequent on the 108 road toward Pai. Helmet on, IDP in your pocket, license plates visible. Fines are ฿500–฿1,000 — very avoidable.
